User Persona Data

To help understand the goals of Horizon Railways better, I put together 2 example personas that represent the majority of the company's client base to gain clarity on who I am designing for and the issues I need to solve.

Persona 1: The Tech-Savvy Traveler

About: A software engineer and frequent traveler who prioritizes high-efficiency, digital-first solutions for both work and leisure.

Goals: Wants a streamlined boarding process through quick seat location and a self-service experience that eliminates the need for manual assistance.

Challenges: Susceptible to "cognitive overload" from cluttered interfaces; requires high data accuracy to maintain trust in the platform.

Persona 2: The Student Commuter

About: Full-time student who relies on rail travel for their daily commute and social connectivity, balancing a strict academic schedule with a limited budget.

Goals: Aims to quickly find their seat and stay within the student budget, all while having a productive environment to study during the commute.

Challenges: Requires a "low-friction" interface that provides reliable WiFi access and clear way-finding to avoid arrival delays.

Seamless Digital Boarding Experience

The final tickets prioritize high-utility data, ensuring that even in a crowded station, the user’s most important information is never more than a glance away. Key design improvements include:

Information Density: Grouped "Platform" and "Departure" times together to provide travelers with the most critical "next-step" information at a glance.

Visual Scanning: Utilized high-contrast typography and standard Apple Wallet iconography to ensure the ticket is readable even in low-light station environments.

By adhering strictly to Apple's Human Interface Guidelines (HIG), I was able to create a tool that feels familiar and trustworthy to the user from the very first interaction.
